About

Susan Montgomery is an author and artist who has been creating since childhood. Art has always been part of her life, though there were seasons when chronic pain made creativity difficult. Those quieter years became turning points, teaching her to notice the small joys, trust in gentle beginnings, and honor the courage it takes to start again.

When Susan was finally able to return to art, she started small, sketching birds and butterflies on greeting cards, then painting little pieces that helped her rediscover joy. Her return to creativity shaped the stories she now tells through her books, which blend art, music, and storytelling to celebrate hope, connection, and the beauty and passion found in everyday life.

Many of her picture books are inspired by her local community in Bowling Green, Ohio, from therapy dogs spreading comfort and cats finding forever homes to the real falcons nesting high in the town’s clock tower.

She discovered the ukulele during the pandemic and quickly fell in love with its cheerful sound. As she co-founded her local ukulele group and launched a Christian ukulele ministry, Susan began weaving the joy of music into her stories for both children and adults, from whimsical picture books to faith-based nonfiction and ukulele guides.

When she’s not sketching, painting, or strumming, Susan loves visiting local shops, libraries, and community spaces to share her stories and spark creativity in others. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Bowling Green State University and lives in Bowling Green, Ohio, with her tuxedo cat, Tracey, her loyal studio companion.
