My Ostomy
Today marks my first Ostomy Awareness Day. I’m walking a Virtual 5k (or close to it!) with the United Ostomy Association of America.

To be honest, I really had no idea what ostomies were all about until it was time for my surgery to remove my colon. I have an ileostomy which means waste is diverted from its usual path through my small intestine instead. I have a stoma, which I liken to Rudolph’s red nose. This is where the waste comes out and I have a pouch system that holds the waste. I have to empty it each time I use the bathroom. Whew! My ostomy is permanent while some have a temporary one.
My ostomy has truly saved my life. I was so sick before my surgery and feel like I have a new lease on life now! I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve received from family and friends.
Book Release

My book about my ulcerative colitis experience is available now on Amazon! I truly hope this can help others who are going through a similar experience. I want to show you that it’s ok to laugh about this disease. Humor can get you through this. I hope my poems and illustrations can give you a good laugh.
My book is available in eBook & Paperback. Feel free to leave an honest review (they are so helpful to other readers!) and contact me with any questions or comments you may have.
